The Brecknock Society & Museum Friends and the Friends of Llansantffraed Church are hosting a summer poetry and harp concert on Sunday 27th July at 3.00pm inspired by the landscape and heritage of Wales, and the local Usk Valley in particular. Llansantffraed Church's popular events with literary connections reflect its heritage as the resting place of Breconshire’s 17th Century poet Henry Vaughan.
Dr Rowan Williams and Hilary Davies are both award-winning poets whose collections have received critical acclaim and are both inspired by their Welsh heritage. They will introduce and read poems of their own as well as selected works by others, including Henry Vaughan - all relating in some way to the concert’s themes of landscape, Wales and the local Usk Valley. Talented Brecon harpist Martha Powell will play both classic and modern Welsh pieces, including two of her own compositions, also chosen to reflect the concert’s themes.
The concert duration including interval will be I hour 50 minutes. Tickets are £15 (includes refreshments; bona fide students free) - prior booking is essential. To purchase tickets, contact the Brecknock Society via Mervyn Bramley - email: mervyn.bramley@icloud.com or mob: 07795 345676.
