Llangors Lake Past and Present
To mark the discovery of the museum’s 9th century log boat, there will be four short talks from 11.30 until 12.45. Elaine Starling, co-author of “Llangors Lake - Past and Present”, will present an overview of the Lake’s history including the crannog. Historian Ruth Richardson will describe the 16th century dispute between Blanche Parry, Chief Gentlewoman of Queen Elizabeth’s Privy Chamber and Hugh Powell owner of Ty Mawr, which was heard at the Court of the Star Chamber. Mervyn Bramley will discuss the various objects and art works linked to Llyn Syfaddan in the museum’s collection and Roger Reese will explain how the lake’s commercial eel trap operated in the 1900s, supplying live eels by rail to Billingsgate market.
There will be special exhibits at y Gaer all day, including the replica logboat made for the Time Team programme about the crannog, which will be on view outside the museum from 10.30 to 3.30, along with displays from Llyn Syfaddan History Group.
