This annual event at Llansantffraed was started by the Brecknock Society in the 1920s. The choral parts and an anthem will be sung by the choir of St Mary’s Priory Church, Abergavenny. The overall evensong service lasts about 1 hour and is followed by a wreath laying at Henry Vaughan’s grave. Tea, coffee and cakes will be served from then until 4.45pm.
The address in the service will be on Vaughan’s poem ‘Jacob’s Pillar and Pillow’ given by Dr Oliver Peel, Foundations Programme Director of Cranmer Hall theological college at Durham University. He is also a scholar on Vaughan’s mentor George Herbert.
There is no charge for attending the event, but please consider making a cash donation to the collection in aid of upkeep of Llansantffraed Church. Click here for our webpage on the Henry Vaughan heritage at Llansantffraed.
