Society President speaks at major conference

The Cambrian Archaeological Association held a conference in Brecon over the weekend of 22 - 24 September 2023. The first time the Association visited Brecon was in 1853, their most recent visit was in 1972. Two of the evening lectures were open to members of BSMF and other history groups in the county. Our President, Nigel Clubb, gave one of these lectures on the Buildings and Monuments of Brecon which covered its topography, the principal medieval buildings of the town, (Castle, Cathedral, Town Walls, St Mary’s Church, Christ College), its larger and smaller houses, the public buildings, transport (turnpikes, canals and railways), non-conformist chapels, markets, industry and twentieth century developments,  as well as describing the Brecon of today and its powerful Sense of Place.
