The Brecknock Society and Llansantffraed Church will hold a summer poetry and harp concert on Sunday 12th July reflecting the life, history and landscape of the Usk Valley and its surrounds. The Church’s popular literary concerts build on its heritage as the resting place of Breconshire poet Henry Vaughan.
Paul Henry https://www.paulhenrypoet.co.uk/index.html and Christopher Meredith https://christophermeredit9.wixsite.com/website are both locally-based Welsh writers whose English language collections of poems have received widespread critical acclaim. (Click on their names to see their websites). They will select and read poems from their own writings which reflect the concert’s themes of life, history and landscape. Talented Brecon harpist Martha Powell will play classic and modern Welsh pieces, including her own works, which fit with the moods of the poetry or the concert’s themes.
The concert plus interval will last about one hour 40 minutes. Early booking is recommended. Buy tickets online, price £12 for adults; £5 for students or children, via www.ticketsource.com/llansantffraed/t-gljxdpq. For more information or in case of problems, contact Mervyn Bramley (named ‘event organiser’) - mobile: 07795 345676 or email: mervyn.bramley@icloud.com. Proceeds from the concert will help to maintain the Church - a rural Victorian gem.
