Llangors Log Boat Centenary

  • Brecknock Society and Museum Friends c/o Brecknock Museum, Captain’s Walk Brecon, Wales, LD3 7DS United Kingdom (map)

Llyn Syfaddan History Group and the Brecknock Society invite you to a celebration of the discovery and subsequent acquisition of the log boat by the Brecknock Museum, on Friday 19th September at Llangors Community Centre.

The event begins at 6.30 with a talk by Dr Mervyn Bramley who will describe the fascinating story of the boat’s discovery and how it was instrumental in the formation of the Brecknock Museum.  Following Mervyn's presentation, Bob Hansel will share some of his memories of the finder of the boat, Llangors resident Thomas Jenkins.

A full scale replica log boat, created during the filming of the Time Team programme, The Fortress on the Lake, will be on show thanks to Nigel Gervis, who was involved in making the boat.

A short book entitled Llangors Lake Past and Present, written by Alison Noble and Elaine Starling, has been produced to mark the centenary.  The book will be on sale together with other items from the Llyn Syfaddan History Group.

Free refreshments and a finger buffet will be available following the presentations. Donations welcome.
