Conservation & Display Project

Penfold pillar box before and after conservation.

The Conservation and Display project has two components. These have been fully funded through generous contributions totalling £61,300 from charities, local trusts, organisations and many individuals made via the BS&MF and Brecknock Art Trust. Our appeal for funding for this project closed in November 2018. Click below on any of the specific items for details.

  1. Specialist conservation of nine significant objects

2. Additional display cabinets to be made and purchased

Conservation and Display Project completed

The conservation work is now complete and the conserved objects are on display within the refurbished Museum and Art Gallery (A1, A5, A6, A7, A9) and the public area outside y Gaer (A3, A4, A8). The Victorian pillar box (A2 - see before and after pictures above) is on display in the Atrium. To view the other eight conserved objects, click here.

The watercolour paintings cabinet is located in the Permanent Exhibition Gallery. The three museum display cabinets are located in the Brycheiniog Gallery - to view these, click here.

The Brecknock Society and Museum Friends, the Brecknock Art Trust and Powys County Council gratefully acknowledge the generous donations of the seventy individuals, charities, local trusts and organisations that contributed to the Conservation and Display appeal. Those not wishing to remain anonymous are acknowledged by name in Volume 51 (2020) of our Journal Brycheiniog, and on the funders and donors boards in the Museum entrance hall.
